Fashion Designer Sinesia Karol

Tell us a little about yourself, your brand/company and how it started?

I was born in Brazil and grew up in a small town surrounded by water. My mother had a retail store and a small manufacturer of bikinis in my hometown. My passion for bathing suits was born a long time ago and continues even though I moved to US when I was only 20 years old. In 2010 I had an idea of creating a luxury line of beachwear. Quickly my idea became a passion and for two years I worked with an artist and a fabric manufacturer to create my own prints and to develop a collection of luxury beachwear.

What advice can you give for starting your own business or turning your passion into a career?

Starting your own company is hard. To continue you need to have a passion and work hard. It needs to be something that you really, really want to do and you have to really want to succeed. You need to be persistent, don't let anyone say it won't work, surround your self with people who are smarter than you are and don't be afraid to ask for advice.

What drives/motivates/inspires you? 

To be better, to do my best and to become really successful.

What are you most proud of/ biggest accomplishment?  

To sell BG my first collection in June of 2012.

What was biggest challenge you have faced and how did you overcome it?

Finding the right manufacturing to produce a very high end product. I had to changed vendors a couple times until I could find the right one. Another challenge has been producing abroad. No one is ever on time.

What is the best business advice you have received?

It came from my husband. You need to, at least, break even to continue to be in business. Then get some good advice from people that you trust 100% when trouble arises.

What is your ideal working environment?

Working  with people that give 110% to the company. A team that loves to come to work every day and are not looking at the clock to go home. People who respect each other and who have a lot fun doing what they do. That's a great healthy environment. 

How do you maintain a healthy balance?

Taking time for myself by working out and spending time with my friends and family. Simple things are what actually matter.
