Lauryn Evarts of The Skinny Confidential

If you haven't read, listened and or liked a photo from The Skinny Confidential it is time to start now! A blogger who followed her dreams and made her passion in to a business. We were able to connect through mutual friends and entirely grateful to be able to share Lauryn Evarts story with you all.

Tell us a little about yourself, your brand/company and how it started?

The idea for The Skinny Confidential came about when I was attending San Diego State University. I was incredibly frustrated by the lack of healthy food options on campus… and I was BORED. At the time I was going to school full-time, working days & nights, and teaching reformer Pilates and Pure Barre. Also, I was on a major budget.

So I started modifying all of my meals & the rest is history.

I would take off one side of the bread in a sandwich or swap lettuce for spinach, sweeten coffee with cinnamon, make taco salads, you get it. Then one day I sort of had a lightbulb moment and thought, “why not share my tips and tricks with other women? There’s 20,000 women on campus, they need these tricks too! And shit, I want their tips.”

Since then, The Skinny Confidential has evolved from a fitness and health blog to a community for women all over the world to come & SPILL their tips & tricks. It’s a source of inspiration for women. The Skinny Confidential is also a book, a podcast, and soon to be product line.

What advice can you give for starting your own business or turning your passion into a career?

My ultimate advice: start small, think big. Become very knowledgeable in one area and then expand outwards. Don’t try to do everything at once. Find your niche.

Also, execute! Execution is essential when you're launching. Small daily habits are what create huge results.

What drives/motivates/inspires you?

Creating a community of strong & inspired women keeps me motivated. I have met SO many incredible women through TSC & they all inspire me daily. They hustle, they’re kind & they kill it.

What are you most proud of/ biggest accomplishment?

Creating The Skinny Confidential and quitting my jobs to become a full time blogger. I used to bartend, teach barre & build TSC on the side so I transitioned to full-time blogging my dream came true.

What was biggest challenge you have faced and how did you overcome it?

When blogging began people thought I was nuts. They didn’t understand the platform or the vision & so many people told me stop. Had I listened to them we wouldn’t be here today. I remember the inventor of the airbag telling me blogging didn't sound like a sustainable business plan! You create your own future.

What is the best business advice you have received?

Stay in your own lane. Put your head down and focus on you, not what other people are doing.

What advice would you give an aspiring entrepreneur?

Be patient and hustle. Success doesn’t happen overnight. You have to chip away at it daily.

What is your ideal working environment?

Somewhere where you can be inspired. Ideally light & bright with a spot for Instagrams. Lots of oils diffusing with Bossanova playing. I'd love an iced coffee with cinnamon too if I'm being honest.

What do you do in your spare time?

Snuggle with my fur babies, Pixy & Boone while reading a juicy book. Maybe some wine, lots of fresh foods, and time with my husband. I love to travel and I LOVE Pilates/working out/walking/moving my body.

How do you maintain a healthy balance?

I make things quick and easy in any way I can. For instance, I use the 27 minute workouts in TSC Bombshell Body Guide --- a lot of my recipes take 5 to 10 minutes to make. Quick, easy, painless.

As far as balancing it all? I recommend LISTS. Stick to them. I also set goals for myself & make sure to meet them. Balance is discipline & discipline is difficult. If it were easy though, everyone would do it. Discipline can really take you places if it’s utilized correctly.
